SIR Row: Deletion of Lakhs of Eligible Voters a Conspiracy by Election Commission, Says Dhasmana

Dehradun: Suryakant Dhasmana, Senior Vice President, Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee and Member, AICC, alleged that the deletion of names of lakhs of eligible voters and issuance of objection notices to lakhs of eligible voters in the ongoing SIR process in Uttarakhand is a conspiracy by the Election Commission in collusion with the BJP to deprive voters of opposition parties of their right to vote.

Addressing party workers’ meetings in Dronpuri, West Patel Nagar and Shri Dev Suman Nagar wards of Dehradun city today, Shri Dhasmana said the State Congress has started working on a strategy to fight against the Election Commission. Very soon the party will stage a massive protest against the Election Commission and the State Government.

He said that on the very first day of SIR we had announced that not a single valid voter’s name would be allowed to be deleted from the state and no invalid vote would be allowed to be added to the list. But the picture emerging now clearly shows that names of people belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBCs, minorities and residents of poor localities have been deleted on a large scale. Now there is an attempt to delete more names through notices, which will not be tolerated.

Shri Dhasmana warned that if required, the Congress will take to the streets and launch an agitation. He said that like West Bengal, the Election Commission will not be allowed to act arbitrarily in Uttarakhand.

THOSE PRESENT: Shri Dinesh Kaushal, President Labour Cell, PCC, Councillor Sangeeta Gupta, Pramod Kumar Gupta, Sardar Jaswinder Singh Mothi, Altaf Hussain, Gurdeep Singh Rawat, Sonu Kazi, Mahendra Gupta, Sharafat, Rajendra Singh, Sushil Dobhal, Sultan and others.
